Expect the unexpected

Men's tennis at the moment can be summed up in three words:

brilliant but unpredictable.

For the past 3 or 4 years Rafa has won on clay and Roger on grass and hard court. That's just the way it's been. But now you can't say with any certainty what's going to happen next.

Federer seems capable of both beating or losing to anyone on any given day. Rafa goes on a brilliant run which is ended, against the odds, by Djokovic coming off the back of a mini slump.

Djokovic has a 4-0 head to head with Murray, and yet Murray beat's him twice in a fortnight. Murray plays the best tennis in the Cincy final and is poised to serve for the tournament, but somehow gets broken and finds himself in another tie break. It's hard to keep up!

The only thing predictable about mens tennis right now, is that it's going to stay unpredictable for a lot longer yet.

Hey Steve, you're totally right on this: It's hard to tell what's going to happen nowadays.

I can't wait to see the Olympics draw. I'd say the player most on form would be Murray, but who knows? It's so crazy out there, Nic Massu might end up defending his title!

Hi Van

I forgot it was Massu who won.

Do you think Sampras would swap one Wimbledon or US Open title for an Olympic Gold?

And do you think Massu would swap Gold for a Slam?

Hey guys,

Great win by Murray! I'm so excited that he's really in the mix - now "all" he has to do is beat Nadal!

I don't think Sampras would swap for the Olympics - then Roger would only be one away from his record! He also seems like the kind of guy who likes to leave things the way they are - he says the only thing he misses is Centre Court.

Massu is my hero! I don't think he'd trade his medals for gold - he (and Gonzo, who won the dubs with him) was the first Chilean man to win a medal in the summer Olympics. Huge.

I think your "brilliant but unpredictable" comment captures the tennis moment perfectly.

Hey, you two. Yeah, I agree with FF: Sampras and Massu would be happy with what they have! Unless, I'm mistaken, Sampras only played in one Olympics, right? In Barcelona?
