The proto-type for Nadal AKA Carlos Moya chalked up an impressive win in Cincy today against Tipsarevic 7-6, 7-5.
The old champion (without checking the stats, at 32 he must be the oldest Grand Slam Champion left on the tour) has not had the best of seasons and is ranked 41, but he lurks dangerously in the draw, and still has the respect of the locker room.
We've had the return of Safin and so I guess it is too much to ask for the return of Moya(?) but either way I hope he strikes a blow for all us (early) 30 something tennis players and goes deep in at least one tournament this summer.

It was good to see Carlos beat a young guy. His results are so up and down lately. I wonder what his goals are as a pro - money, obligation, the love of the game, a Grand Slam (he did make it to the quarters or semis of the US Open last year. . .) It's interesting to think about what keeps a pro going. . .

It must be love of the game, because he has a ton of money and as far as I'm concerned, he's a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer. I'm glad to see him get a good win, too, especially against Tipsarevic (I'm not that big a fan of his), who really seems to be out there for who knows why. Tipsy's results are nowhere close to his talent level, and I really think he's going to be a career journeyman who springs up an upset every now and then, just on ability alone.
